Meet a Finnhorse in the surroundings where it lives its everyday life.

Because the experience is private, the focus can be adapted to the people taking part. For some guests, it may be a gentle introduction to the Finnhorse – spending time close to the horse, observing it and hearing about its character, life at Ronivaara and place in Finnish culture.

For others, the experience can go deeper into body language, communication and interaction. Through guided observation and practical activities from the ground, you can explore how the horse responds to movement, space, focus and timing.

Your guide knows Ronivaara’s horses as individuals and adapts the way you work together according to the participants, their experience and interests, and the Finnhorse taking part.

A deeper exploration of horse-human communication

Journey into the Finnhorse’s World – Body Language, Communication & Interaction is a longer private experience for up to four guests.

Practical groundwork, close observation and individually adapted exercises give you time to explore the finer details of communication between horse and human.

Journey into the Finnhorse’s World – Body Language and Interaction

A private Finnhorse experience centred on communication, body language and real interaction with the horse. Through observation and practical groundwork, you explore how a horse communicates and how your own movement, direction, distance, breathing, focus and timing influence its responses. The programme is shaped around each participant’s experience and interests and the individual Finnhorse taking part – offering meaningful discoveries for both less experienced guests and experienced horse people.

Horses we know through everyday life

Ronivaara’s Finnhorses are horses we know as individuals – their characters, friendships, habits, strengths and the small things that make each of them different.

One horse may come closer quickly, while another may first watch from a little distance. A horse can communicate through its gaze, posture, breathing, movement and the way it chooses to use space.

The horses also live as members of their own herds. Their relationships with other horses and their everyday routines are part of who they are.

Your guide knows the horses from daily life at Ronivaara and helps you notice the horse you are meeting. Every encounter is a little different because the horse, the people and the day are different too.

Meet Finland’s native horse breed

The Finnhorse is Finland’s native horse breed and national horse, with a long shared history with Finnish people.

Finnhorses have worked alongside people on farms and in forests, transported people and goods and later taken on important roles in driving, riding and equestrian sport.

At Ronivaara, you meet this history through the horses living here today. Each has its own place in the herd, its own experiences and its own way of being with people.

A Finnhorse encounter gives you a chance to meet more than the breed – you meet the horse in front of you.

The season is part of the encounter

Ronivaara changes throughout the year.

In winter, snow surrounds the horses’ outdoor areas and softens the farm landscape. Summer brings pasture, green fields and long northern light. Autumn colours the surroundings, while spring changes the ground and lengthens the days.

The same horses and the same home are here through every season, while snow, pasture, light and weather change around them.

A good everyday life comes first

A good encounter begins with paying attention to the horse.

Ronivaara’s Finnhorses live with other horses, move outdoors and have time for rest, social life and natural horse behaviour. Their health, behaviour, workload and individual needs are followed as part of daily care.

The horse’s signals and willingness to take part guide the encounter. The programme can be adapted according to the horse, the participants and the conditions of the day.

Meeting a horse respectfully also means giving it space, noticing its responses and allowing the interaction to develop without rushing.
