Morning with Finnhorses at Ronivaara

Ronivaara’s day begins with the animals. In the morning, the Finnhorses are in their herds in the paddocks and shelters, feeding begins and the farmyard gradually comes to life. During this private morning, your own group joins these ordinary moments together with your guide.

Finnhorses of different ages live at Ronivaara, including foals. There is time to stop by the paddocks and watch the horses together: which horses stay close to each other, how they move within the herd and how individual ways of behaving begin to show when you take time to look.

Your guide knows the Ronivaara horses and tells you about them as you move around the farmyard — who they are, their ages, their backgrounds and the little things that make each horse an individual. Through the horses living here, you also hear about the Finnhorse, Finland’s native horse breed, and its long connection with everyday life on Finnish farms.

The morning follows what the animals need that day. You take part in feeding and suitable small morning tasks together with your guide. At the same time, you see horse wellbeing in practical everyday details: feeding, rest, movement, herd life and the daily attention given to each horse.

In the Rhythm of a Ronivaara Morning

The other animals are part of the morning too. You meet the sheep and chickens in the farmyard and can take part in their feeding. What is happening around the farm changes with the season — snow and frost in winter, melting snow in spring, grazing season in summer and colder mornings returning in autumn.

With your own group, there is also time simply to stop and watch. Your guide helps you notice things that might otherwise pass unnoticed and shares stories about the horses, their lives and the everyday routines of the farm. No two mornings at Ronivaara are exactly the same: the animals, the season and the things that need to be done that day shape the experience.

You join the parts of the morning that guests can safely take part in while the ordinary life of the farm continues around you. At the end, you gather in the stable cabin for a warm drink. The animals’ day continues from there.
