Depending on the programme, you can take part in caring for animals, hear about the lives and stories of the Finnhorses, try guided riding or head out into the landscapes around Ronivaara on horseback.

The animals, the season and what is happening around the farm give each experience its own character.

A private two-hour Finnhorse trail ride for your own group through the forests, fields and hill landscapes around Ronivaara. Before heading onto the trail, you receive personal riding guidance, and after the ride you pause in the stable cabin for a seasonal drink.

The farm changes with the seasons

Ronivaara is the same home and farm throughout the year, while everyday life changes with the season.

In winter, snow covers the farmyard and surrounds the horses’ outdoor areas. Spring brings longer days and changing ground. In summer, horses may be out on pasture, while autumn brings ruska colours, cooler air and the first frosts.

The season affects the animals’ days, the work around the farm and the activities that naturally fit into each experience.

Meet the Finnhorses where they live

The Finnhorse is Finland’s native horse breed and national horse, with a long shared history with Finnish people.

At Ronivaara, you meet individual Finnhorses with their own characters, histories, relationships and strengths. Your guide knows the horses and can tell you about the individuals you meet, their everyday life and their place in the herd.

A farm experience gives you a chance to discover the Finnhorse in its own surroundings – as part of the everyday life of a Finnish horse farm.

Depending on the programme and the day, you may also meet sheep and chickens. Each animal has its own routines, social group and way of responding to people.

A good everyday life guides every encounter

Ronivaara’s Finnhorses live in herds and spend their days in varied woodland, field, paddock and pasture environments.

Movement, social life, rest, individual care and opportunities for species-typical behaviour are part of their everyday wellbeing. Their health, behaviour, individual needs and workload are followed as part of daily care.

The animals taking part in an experience are considered according to the day, weather, programme and their individual wellbeing. Guests are guided to notice the animals’ signals and act around them respectfully.

Horse welfare can be seen in how the animals are approached, how their days are organised and how they take part in experiences at Ronivaara.
