Find your own feel in the saddle

A private lesson at Ronivaara is a personal riding lesson with a Finnhorse. The lesson is shaped around your experience, goals and the individual horse taking part.

For a first-time or less experienced rider, the lesson offers a calm and guided introduction to being in the saddle, finding balance and learning the basics. With a more experienced rider, the focus can move into finer details such as seat, use of aids, timing, following the horse’s movement or a specific question that is currently important in your riding.

Depending on the weather and conditions, lessons take place in the indoor riding arena or outdoor arena. With one-to-one instruction, your guide can focus closely on your riding and help you notice small changes that can make a real difference to how riding feels and how the horse responds.

The Finnhorse as your teacher

Your seat, balance, breathing, weight and aids all influence how the horse moves and responds. During the lesson, these small changes become something you can notice and work with together with the horse.

During the lesson, you can try something, adjust your own riding and notice what changes in the horse’s response. Sometimes a small change in your seat or in the timing of an aid can change the whole feeling of an exercise.

Ronivaara’s Finnhorses are individuals. Your guide knows the horses well, chooses a suitable horse for you and adapts the exercises to the horse-and-rider combination.

Personal instruction

The lesson can focus, for example, on:

  • seat and balance – how your body influences the horse’s movement and your confidence in the saddle
  • rein and leg aids – how clear, well-timed aids help the horse understand the rider
  • transitions and steering – how to prepare, ask for and complete an exercise
  • following the horse’s movement – finding rhythm and balance in different movements
  • focus and body awareness – how breathing, tension, attention and the way you use your body affect your riding

Exercises are chosen specifically for your riding. Your goal may be to learn something new, refine an existing skill or simply find a better shared feel with the horse.

From your first ride to more experienced training

A private lesson can be a calm first riding experience when you want to learn with personal guidance. For a more experienced rider, it offers time to focus on a specific question or refine details in seat, balance, aids and timing.
